Quinta Bonita is minutes away from all that the Algarve has to offer, from stunning beaches to the romance of Lagos' old town...

...and with over 3000 hours of sun a year the Algarve has the perfect climate in which to relax and discover.

With its castle walls, narrow, cobbled streets, pottery shops and numerous pavement cafes from which to watch the world go by, Lagos has a relaxed atmosphere and quiet charm, making it one of the most appealing locations in the Algarve.

While away some time browsing the boutiques in the new Marina, enjoy the colourful Saturday markets or take a walk along the long sandy beach of Meia Praia which stretches all the way to Alvor and conveniently has several small beach bars along the way to quench your thirst!

There are many wonderful restaurants in and around Lagos and within just a few minutes' drive from Quinta Bonita. Local taxis are plentiful and cheap and can be booked through your hosts. Quinta Bonita has one excellent restaurant within walking distance.

Quinta Bonita is just moments away from some of the best beaches on the Algarve Coast. Whether you're looking for a bracing ocean swim or a place to sun yourself on perfect white sand, we can recommend a beach for you. Some of our favourites:

The romantic beach of Porto de Mós is one of our absolute favourites. Walking along its red and golden cliffs to Praia da Luz is a wonderful experience and there's a couple of lovely laid back cafes to enjoy a coffee or gelato afterwards.

Praia da Luz is only five minutes from Quinta Bonita and has a long curve of sand in a very protected bay - perfect for swimming.

If you're looking for tranquility, head to Praia do Camilo. It's a spectacular spot and well-known for its beautiful sculpted rocks emerging from the clear waters and labyrinth grottos.

A little further afield but well worth the 30 minute drive, the beautiful and wild west coast beaches such as Praia da Bordeira are spectacular and a surfer's paradise.

The rugged Algarve coastline provides excellent facilities and perfect conditions all year around for a wide range of watersports. From surfing to scuba diving, big game fishing to dolphin watching, the Algarve has it all. You can even swim with dolphins at Zoo Marine.

Join a trip on a traditional Portuguese sailing boat for a BBQ cruise or hire your own private yacht, taking your own picnic hamper with wine included from Quinta Bonita and find your own secluded beach amongst the white sandy beaches and spectacular rock formations of the unspoilt headland of Ponte da Piedade. Another favourite trip of ours is to do one of the local grotto trips or for the more adventurous explore the grottoes by kayak! All boat trips can be booked through Quinta Bonita and pre-booking is recommended.

If you are a keen equestrian visit one of the established riding stables and enjoy an enchanting hack in to the charming countryside. Or for those that prefer 4 wheels to 4 legs, join one of the quad-biking tours and explore rugged and remote inland terrain.

For those that prefer to aim high try your hand at hang gliding, hot air-ballooning or take a microlight flight for those incredible views of the pristine Algarve coastline.

Closer to home one on one yoga or pilates sessions can be arranged on the lawns of Quinta Bonita or in our sheltered yoga shala and massage space over-looking the Italian Garden. Click here>> for further information on our yoga retreats.

All activities can be booked through Quinta Bonita and pre-booking is recommended.

Why not take one of the bikes Quinta Bonita has available for guests to hire and explore the cobbled streets of Lagos or cycle down to one of the local beaches. A keen cyclist your host, Fraser, will be only too happy to plan you a route for the day and pack you a gourmet lunch.

For those of you more serious about cycling and travelling with your own bike ask Fraser about the local mountain biking trails or the best road ride circuit in the area. Storage and onsite maintenance is available if you are travelling with your own bicycle.

There are many spectacular walks in the area and we have a range of coastal and inland walking notes available for in-house guests to enjoy.

One of our favourite walks is to climb the hill from Quinta Bonita and walk along our ridge taking in the spectacular views of the Monchique mountains on one side and the bays of Luz and Lagos on the other, returning through the tranquil vines of a neighbouring vineyard at the bottom of the valley (also an excellent jogging circuit for early risers!).

There are some fantastic cliff-top walks between the various fishing villages and some more challenging mountain walks in Monchique. Ask us for our walking notes.

Hiring a car is also a great way to get around to these and many more destinations so let us know what you need and we can organise one for you.

Bird Watching

Quinta Bonita is located just 30minutes from Sagres, the most important bird migration bottleneck in Portugal aswell as being ideally located for many other beautiful bird watching areas such as Boca do Rio, Alvor Estuary and the West Coast. We work with a Portuguese biologist and nature guide who tailor makes half and full day programs aiming to watch around 50 species of birds per day and enabling time to also observe other fauna and flora such as butterflies and the wonderful wild flowers.

Quinta Bonita has some great local massage therapists who provide massages, facials, pedicures and manicures in the privacy of your own suite, on your sun drenched terrace or under the shade of yoga shala and massage space over-looking the Italian Garden. Ask us to pre-book your treatment for you.

The Essential Fitness and Spa at Boavista Golf Resort is directly across the road from Quinta Bonita. Set your worries and cares adrift as you enjoy their spa, sauna jacuzzi and indoor pool facilities or work out in their gym.

If your idea of relaxation involves a quiet round, you're well served with two pristine courses in the immediate vicinity of Lagos and at least another dozen within 10-20 minute drive from Quinta Bonita.

Boavista combines a variety of attractive and interesting holes with spectacular scenery. The crystal clear Atlantic Ocean is visible from most holes which makes this course a delight for the golfer. You can enjoy views of Quinta Bonita whilst sitting back and enjoying a drink on the 19th hole.

Onyria Palmares – Unquestionably the most attractive of all the golf courses in the Algarve. This course is laid out on the side of a south-facing hill overlooking the Bay of Lagos and the views as you play your round are breathtaking.

Quinta Bonita Bonita has competitive golf rates with all the major golf courses in the Western Algarve and can arrange all your golfing requirements for your holiday, please contact us for more information.

Night Life

Lagos is a youthful town and its nightlife is surprising. Enjoy local Portuguese specialities and international delights in one of the many delicious restaurants - ask your hosts for their recommendations.

Afterwards enjoy a cocktail and live music at one of the friendly bars or dance the night away at one of the night clubs, beach bars or typical restaurants.

Algarve Culture With a sea-faring history that stretches back to the 16th century, it's no surprise that there are plenty of ways to indulge your love of culture in and around Lagos. You may want to visit Igreja de Santo António - a stunning 18th century baroque church complete with religious art works and decorated menhirs from 4th century B.C. as well as Roman remains.

Other historic places of interest are the Mercados dos Escravos dating from the 15th century and presently used as an art gallery and the Forte da Ponta da Bandeira, a beautiful17th century fortress perched on the top of the cliff at the entrance to Lagos harbour.

For a contemporary cultural indulgence, the Lagos Cultural Centre has a modern auditorium and is a mecca for music and the performing arts.

Further afield

If you're feeling adventurous, why not make a day trip to one of the many villages in the area – each with their own unique appeal. Remember to pick up a gourmet picnic hamper, complete with wine from Quinta Bonita before you depart.

If this is your first visit, be sure to drive to Sagres and Cape St Vincent, the most south-westerly tip of Europe. Drive back to Vila do Bispo and up to the unspoilt Western coast. Turn off at Carapateira for a spectacular drive and a delightful little Portuguese restaurant perched on top of the cliff.

Monchique is a placid mountain town with its own timeless identity. The village of Caldas de Monchique is renowned for its spa waters. Head all the way up to Foia where at 900 metres there are many tracks for walkers and, on clear days, wonderful panoramic views. On your way back, stop at one of the many roadside restaurants for Chicken Piri Piri.

Silves with its medieval castle, was once the Moorish capital of the Algarve. A market town at the heart of the citrus growing area, it remains proud of its Moorish heritage. The country road from Portimao is also a pretty drive.

Drive to the Bravura Dam tucked away in a peaceful setting 15 km from Lagos. Turn off at Odiaxere on the EN125 east of Lagos where beautiful walks, interesting bird life and an inviting little restaurant await.
